Tell Jill Biden and Kamala Harris to support Cuban women and help take Cuba off the terrorist list!

<[link removed]>TAKE ACTION! <[link removed]>

Dear John,

I've just returned from an incredibly moving trip to Cuba, and I couldn't wait to share with you the highlights and the profound impact of this experience. On behalf of CODEPINK, together with our close partner Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love) and its founder Carlos Lazo, we had the honor of delivering 5000 pounds of milk to the provinces of Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila in Cuba. This donation translates to about 50,000 glasses of milk for children in pediatric hospitals across both regions. We also brought milk and medicines to senior centers, orphanages and psychiatric facilities.

Our journey was a stark reminder of the tremendous harm the U.S. embargo inflicts on Cuban women who are striving to feed and protect their families. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly normally receive free powdered milk. But when Trump included Cuba on the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, banks refused to deal with Cuba, disrupting food supplies and leading to shortages. With U.S. companies  fearful of running afoul of U.S. sanctions, Cuba must buy imported milk—at an inflated cost—from places as far as New Zealand and Uruguay.

This International Women’s Day, tell Jill Biden and Kamala Harris to help take Cuba off the terrorist list and let Cuba live! <[link removed]>

Dr. Jill Biden visited Cuba at the tail end of the Obama administration to deepen ties with the Cuban people. With Obama’s opening, the two countries enjoyed their closest relations in 60 years. Vice President Kamala Harris has been focusing on how to curb immigration, and sanctions are one of the main drivers of migration from countries like Cuba and Venezuela.

It's high time for women Democratic leaders to step forward and help reverse Trump’s harmful policies by speaking up for a return to the Obama-era approach to Cuba. <[link removed]>

During our trip to Cuba, we had the opportunity to visit several medical centers, homes for orphaned children, and nursing facilities. We saw how, with such scarce resources but with immense love, Cubans were caring for the most vulnerable among them.

In all these places, residents welcomed us with open arms. They sang, danced, shared jokes, and even performed magic tricks! To say it was magical is an understatement. It was an immensely profound journey that reinvigorated my faith in humanity during these distressing times for the Palestinian people.

While geographically distinct, these issues are interconnected through the common suffering caused by U.S. imperial policies that wreak havoc on the lives of women and children, who are the most vulnerable populations in any society.

Ask First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to tell President Biden to follow Obama's lead, not Trump's, by removing Cuba from the Terrorist List! <[link removed]>

In addition to the milk, we were also able to provide 100,000 acetaminophen tablets and other much-needed over-the-counter medicines. Access to basic medication is a challenge for many in Cuba due to the blockade, and being able to alleviate some of that burden, even if just a little, fills my heart with immense satisfaction.

The funds raised for these donations came from an outpouring from people across the United States, including many Cuban Americans. It is an expression of the U.S. public’s rejection of our government’s economic policies aimed at strangling the Cuban economy.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting Cuban families. We will continue seeking avenues to provide aid and bridge the gaps created by the blockade.

Kamala Harris once said “If we build a world that works for women, our nations will all be safer, stronger, and more prosperous.” Tell the vice president that taking Cuba off the SSOT list is vital to creating a world that truly works for women, as it would alleviate the disproportionate economic burden on them, ensure their safety, strengthen their ability to thrive, and foster prosperity for generations to come. <[link removed]>

With heartfelt gratitude and renewed hope,

Medea, Michelle, Teri, Ysa and the whole CODEPINK Team
