Friend,
We all know that our elections are supposed to be fair, not just for the voters, but for the candidates too. But in New Jersey, the primary elections are far from fair for the candidates. The state has a “county line,” where candidates who are endorsed by the county party are all grouped together, while everybody else could be in an entirely separate area of the ballot, even if they’re running for the same office!
It may not seem like a huge deal, but what if we told you that being on the county line may give someone a greater advantage in winning their election? This unfair ballot design is just another way to keep power in the hands of a select few at the expense of the true will of the voters. Voters should have the power to determine the outcome of an election, not the county party.
New Jersey’s county line is just another way to keep power in the hands of the select few at the expense of both the candidates and the will of the people. Elections need to be free and fair, and the county line is standing in the way of it. If you chip in $10 now, we can work together to support free and fair elections throughout the country, including in New Jersey.
Listen, the design of these ballots is intentional. County parties in New Jersey want to ensure the victory of their candidates by any means necessary, but this county line is unfair. Voting should be simple and clear for voters, and the county line makes voting confusing.
If you agree that voting should be simple and clear, please contribute $10 today so we can keep working together towards our goal: free and fair elections for all. The county line is just one way that the powerful few keep power for themselves at the expense of the will of the people, and we have to put a stop to it.
Thank you,
