There is one person who has single-handedly stopped gun violence prevention bills from becoming law, John: NRA darling Mitch McConnell.
|
For almost four decades, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has blatantly ignored the tens of thousands of Americans wounded and murdered by gun violence each year and the majority of others calling for common-sense change to stop the carnage.
It’s no surprise: Massacre Mitch accepted over $1.2 million in campaign contributions from the NRA and relished doing their deadly bidding.
Now, on the heels of the NRA’s corrupt verdict in New York and the disgraced resignation of their long-time leader, Wayne LaPierre, Mitch McConnell will end his term as the longest-serving Senate leader in history after two decades of choosing profits over the American people.

With Mitch finally releasing his deadly grip on the Senate and a chance to elect a gun violence prevention majority to the Senate in November, we must make it clear to lawmakers that Americans are ready for change, John. McConnell’s NRA-guided hands will soon be off our necks and we need our lawmakers to stand up to the gun lobby – that includes reinstating the lifesaving assault weapons ban. Will you send an urgent message to the Senate right now and urge them to ban assault weapons? >>

Not one person has as much blood on his hands as Mitch McConnell. He has sat in the Senate for nearly 40 years and watched as countless Americans die because he refused to consider gun violence prevention legislation that would save lives – from the very beginning.
|
Mitch McConnell began his career advocating against life-saving legislation: In 1989, after a mass shooting in his home state of Kentucky, he said, “We need to be careful about legislating in the middle of a crisis.”
He stopped attempts to expand background checks after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults in Sandy Hook.
|
After a gunman killed 60 people in Las Vegas in 2017, he called the idea of discussing legislative solutions “premature.”
|
This is yet another chance for us to finally accomplish the change we desperately need in this country, John. With McConnell’s announcement that he will step down from the speakership, will you send an urgent message to Senators and demand they stand up to the gun lobby and pass an assault weapons ban?

We continue to make incremental change in this fight to save lives and if we remain dedicated, we will free America from gun violence.
