It's almost March! Take a look at what the chapter has in store for the first half of the month.

Don't forget the next DSA-LA chapter meeting is 11am-2pm Saturday March 9th, more details to come.

ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY 3/5!

Cast your vote! Only 4.2% of ballots in Los Angeles have been returned. It's easy to find a ballot drop box or voting center near you. Be sure to read the DSA-LA 2024 Primary Voting Guide before marking your ballot.

Let's get our socialist slate over the finish line! Support the DSA-LA slate in this final stretch:

TONIGHT 2/28, 4pm-6pm: Transit Campaign Canvass for Ysabel

Join the DSA-LA Mass Transit campaign to talk to transit riders who live in Ysabel Jurado's district! We did this electoral form of canvassing at a metro station last week, and it was quite successful. The primary election is fast approaching, and we need to elect transit champion Ysabel to the LA city council!

2/28-3/1, 5pm-7pm: Phonebank for Karla Griego for School Board

We need to get on the phone this week and call community members to vote for Karla! No experience necessary, a training and a script will be provided right before the phone banks.

Sat. 3/2 + Sun. 3/3, 10am-2pm: DSA-LA Final Push for Ysabel

This is it folks, the last weekend before the primary ends. DSA has already accomplished so much but now it's time to finish strong. If we're going to bring this election home we need to make sure we're getting out the vote! Join us in these last crucial moments to make sure Ysabel Jurado breaks the CD14 curse!

Sat. 3/2, 11:30am-2:30pm: DSA-LA for Nithya Final Canvass

Come knock doors and let voters in Los Feliz know about Nithya Raman’s campaign for re-election to City Council! No experience required as training will be offered before we start. All you need is a willingness to meet fellow Angelenos and talk to them about their issues and explain why Nithya is the best choice to continue representing the district!

DSA is hosting this canvass, and we’ll go get lunch and socialize afterward.

Join us on Election Night!

Join your DSA-LA comrades to watch the 2024 Primary Election results! This event is open to everyone, so feel free to bring your friends and neighbors along. We'll be hanging out at Audio Graph Brewing starting at 8pm. Food and drinks will be provided, and all ages are welcome to attend. Limited parking is available behind the brewery, as well as some street parking in the neighborhood.

Building Worker Power in Los Angeles

Sun. 3/3 @ 10am: Join DSA-LA at the MANY CRAFTS, ONE FIGHT Rally

The Hollywood crew unions are hosting a pre-negotiations kick-off rally on Sunday, March 3rd, and DSA-LA will be showing up in solidarity! You don’t need to work in the entertainment industry to join us. In fact, workers of all stripes showing up with their solidarity is a HUGE SIGN that LA’s working class stands with Hollywood workers!  RSVP so we can give you updates of where we’ll be meeting, and to let us know if you need help carpooling!

Fri. 3/8 @ 6:30pm: Higher Ed. Workers Circle Social

Are you a DSA-LA member who works in Higher Ed (faculty, librarian, counselor, coach, admin, maintenance, etc)? Currently enrolled at a community college/university? Come hang! We'll have a table at All Seasons Brewery in Mid-Wilshire. The 720, 212, and 28 buses all stop off pretty close by.

The Rent is Too Damn High!

This spring, LA will revise the limit on annual RSO rent increases for the first time in 39 years. Learn more about changes to LA’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) at: https://www.la-rso-2024.org/

Thurs. 3/7 + 3/12, 7:30pm - 9pm: Central Branch RSO Postcarding & Social

Join us for a chill hang out, and make a push towards housing affordability at the same time! We will be writing postcards to renters in LA’s key districts, asking them to tell their city council member to support stronger rent control this spring.

This is a great event for everyone: new members, old members, and non-members. We’ll talk about what’s going on with rent control, how we can improve housing affordability in this city, and how we can ultimately build towards the decommodification of housing. Bring a jacket! This event will be outdoors.

Sun. 3/3, 3pm: Power to the Tenants - Resolution Working Group Meeting

Join the Power to the Tenants working group to hammer out a draft proposal for a new priority resolution at this year's local convention. We will take our brainstorm of ideas and narrow them down to help us prioritize our efforts for the coming year.

Palestine Solidarity

We will be rallying and making noise at Kamlager-Dove’s office at 4929 Wilshire Blvd. Alongside Justice for Palestine and Westide for Palestine, we will demand she call for a ceasefire, vote no on aid and arms to Israel, and vote yes to fund UNRWA.

eSIMs for Palestine

Palestinians in Gaza need digital eSim cards to to communicate with  their friends, families, and the outside world. We can help. DSA-LA is fundraising to buy as many data cards for the "eSims for Gaza" program as we possibly can. You can contribute by purchasing one of our union-made "Free Palestine" shirts, all proceeds will purchase more data cards. One shirt pays for one week of data.

Tues. 3/05, 6pm: Palestine Solidarity Working Group Townhall

Join the PSWG for a townhall/state of the group meeting. This working group is focused on organizing in solidarity with Palestine for a ceasefire now, ending U.S. aid to Israel, and for a Free Palestine!

Save Metro Bike Share

LA Metro has proposed a motion to hand over operation of the Metro Bike Share program to Lyft, a gig work company company notorious for its exploitation of workers. Handing over the bikeshare to an anti-transit corporation -- whose primary business is increasing the number of cars on the road -- threatens the long-term stability of Metro Bike Share. Lyft has a history of taking over bike shares, starving them of resources and staffing, and even shutting down bike share programs once they're no longer profitable. This proposed contract is shortsighted and threatens an important public mobility service and the unionized workers who make Metro Bike Share function.

Sun. 3/10, 1pm: Metro Bike Share Solidarity Ride

JOIN US for a solidarity bike ride. meeting at 1st x Central ave. in Little Tokyo. Meet @ 1pm, Roll @ 2pm.
