The bad news: my team just let me know that my primary opponent is on the attack, smearing my experience and questioning my fitness to lead. Let me be clear—as the lead legislative Democrat on finance & budget the last few years, there's no elected Democrat in our state who understands our finances better than I do.
But bless his heart, I guess my opponent just hasn't lived in the state long enough to know that yet.
It's a damn shame that I have to call out a fellow Democrat for distorting the truth and going negative in this race, but the good news is, he wouldn't be resorting to these tactics if he weren't desperate. With 9 members of Congress, 72 legislators, more than 90 local elected officials, and the political arms of the NC Association of Educators and the State Employees Association behind me, it's clear that this campaign is in the best position to win next week and in November.
The people who depend on the Treasurer's office the most trust me with their money, but my opponent's only avenue for survival is to call that trust into question. It won't work, but we can't just let his attacks be either.
Because here's the thing: all that support doesn't mean anything if we don't have the resources to let voters know about it—so can I count on you to help us respond to this shameful attack and get our message out there by rushing a contribution to this campaign today? Anything you can give will help us get in front of the voters we need to win.
