Presidential election years coincide with leap years, and I always like to take some time on our “extra day” to reflect on where things are and contemplate the consequences of the votes we’ll cast in November. This year, I’ll be thinking about the Oregonians who are increasingly left behind by a failing status quo: people who have been forgotten in the abyss of an ongoing opioid epidemic, folks living in their cars or out in the cold, and others pushed to the margins of our society.

We need federal action and funding to tackle the homelessness and opioid epidemics sweeping our nation, and that’s going to take guts and leadership in Washington – characteristics that are sorely lacking in our current representative.

I’m in this race because the real issues impacting our communities simply aren’t being addressed by my opponent.
