Today, our partners at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the 2023 National Environmental Scorecard and we’re excited to share the Maine scores with you.

The LCV Scorecard has been the primary yardstick for evaluating the environmental records of members of Congress since 1970, trusted by the media, policymakers, and the public alike. You can download it by clicking here [[link removed]] or go online at scorecard.lcv.org [[link removed]].

This newest Scorecard shows that in 2023, environmental champions in Congress successfully fought back against relentless and sweeping attacks on our democracy and environmental protections by a chaotic MAGA Republican-led House, which took hundreds of symbolic votes to cater to fossil fuel interests and the most extreme wing of their conference. This stands in stark contrast to recent climate action and progress on judicial nominations in the Senate — and the consequence was hundreds of missed opportunities to help communities, lower costs, and make progress against the climate crisis.

Here are the results for Maine’s congressional delegation:

Rep. Chellie Pingree scored 97%! We applaud her for her pro-environment, pro-democracy leadership, and unwavering commitment to tackling the climate crisis.

Sen. Angus King ’s 81% reflects his continued commitment to protecting the environment, democracy, and our climate future – but includes a vote that made it easier for the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a fracked gas pipeline, to move forward.

Rep. Golden ’s score dropped significantly last year – from 84% in 2022 to only 53% in 2023, reflecting his votes to block funding for conservation; limit protections for clean air, clean water, and wildlife; and slow the transition away from fossil fuels, including in the transportation sector, which is the most polluting sector of Maine’s economy.

Finally, we are disappointed that Sen. Collins scored just 13%. Her score reflects many votes in opposition to climate action, environmental justice, and the health of our democracy.
