Yesterday we sent you an email explaining our February fundraising goal of $10,000. Here is a quick update, and a little more explanation about how all this works.

So far, we've raised $5,600 – just under $4,500 from our February fundraising goal.

Here is how these fundraising goals work: campaigns and organizations like ours need to plan how much they're going to raise so that they can most effectively steer the money. In our case, we need to know how much we're going to raise to support campaigns like Jon Tester's (Montana), Sherrod Brown's (Ohio), and Tammy Baldwin's (Wisconsin).

And there's a reason we're asking urgently now, in February. Early investments in these extremely close races often mean the difference between winning and losing.

The money we raise now will help these campaigns hire more staff, build out their digital programs, and open offices. Put simply, a dollar you give now will have a better shot at deciding the election than a dollar you give in November.

We're working closely with these Senate races because protecting the Senate is critical this year. In fact, if we lose Senate control this year to Republicans, it's possible Democrats will be locked out of a Senate majority for a generation.

That's why we set this $10,000 February goal, and why we're asking with urgency.
