Since the Supreme Court’s disastrous 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade , women’s rights and reproductive freedom have been under near-constant attack across the country.

Dozens of states have enacted extreme abortion restrictions in the aftermath of Dobbs. One particularly harsh law in Texas even encourages private citizens to invade the lives of pregnant women and sue any organization or person who helps her get an abortion. And, just last week the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are considered children under state law, raising serious implications for the future of reproductive health care.

Many of the devastating consequences of these restrictions have fallen hardest on those who already faced barriers to care: disadvantaged and low income communities, women of color, young people and LGBTQ+ people, and those living in conservative states.

Here in California, our rights are still protected, but clearly that is not the case across the country. California and other forward-thinking states will continue to protect and expand abortion access so no one is denied necessary care, including those traveling from states that ban abortions.

John, this election is our chance to vote out anti-choice extremists and elect a pro-choice Congressional majority who will enshrine abortion rights into federal law, once and for all.

I will keep fighting in Congress to protect abortion providers, restore the right to reproductive freedom, and safeguard the many other rights won under Roe that are now on the conservative Supreme Court’s chopping block.
