** UPDATE
------------------------------------------------------------
Hello John,
I have an update on the news I sent out to you yesterday.
Thankfully the three antelope that were on the run from Borth Zoo were all unharmed. We were really worried as last time an individual escaped this zoo they were shot dead. Such an awful price to pay for just wanting to be free. ([link removed])
These animals are now back at the zoo but that doesn't mean they are safe! We are campaigning to have the awful place shut down and I need your help!
The local authority who licence the zoo have come out and said that it,
"has lost confidence in the ability of the zoo to operate responsibly and safely...."
The local authority holds the power to close the zoo.... so we feel their strong statement is definitely a good sign! That's why it is is crucial that we keep up the pressure!
Please read below, take the campaign actions and help get these animals to safety!
Thank you,
Nicola O'Brien

** URGENT UPDATE
------------------------------------------------------------
Hello John,
I must be quick as we are busy responding to this emergency with national press - but I wanted to keep you updated and I needed to reach out to you for help once again.
This afternoon three antelope escaped from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom. ([link removed]) Three individuals found a way to escape their captivity, as any wild animal would if they could.
SCROLL DOWN TO SEE WHAT ACTIONS I URGENTLY NEED YOU TO TAKE RIGHT NOW.
Just like you, we of course want animals to be free - it is our mission! But we are deeply concerned for the safety of these three, as the environment they find themselves is so alien to them - so far removed from the habitats they are evolved to live in, in Africa.
Of course we are also very worried what the outcome might be. Last time an animal escaped from this zoo, Lillith the lynx, she was shot dead.
This is just another example of how this zoo is being poorly managed and how animals lives are REPEATEDLY put at risk there.

Now more than ever it is clear that our call to have this zoo shut down is the right one. That is why it is crucial that we keep adding on the pressure to the local authority who have the power to close the zoo.
In fact the local authority have just released THIS strong statement, which indicates that they too can see that this zoo needs to close!
"This is extremely disappointing news for the local authority who have issued a number of closure notices on the zoo, as the local authority has lost confidence in the ability of the zoo to operate responsibly and safely.... The zoo operators have appealed the initial closure order and we await confirmation of a court hearing"
(The court hearing has been adjourned for now due to the coronavirus outbreak but we will attend as soon as it is safe to do so!)
We must act swiftly to get this place shut down and move the animals to safety!
HERE ARE 3 ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE RIGHT NOW!
* Contact the local authority and demand they close the zoo down for good! If you already have - please share the action by clicking here, scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking one of our 'Share the page' options! ([link removed])
* Donate to our ([link removed]) Emergency Action Fund ([link removed]) to make sure we can continue to campaign on behalf of the animals at the zoo! Right now we are working with national press to respond on this story - it is so crucial that someone is pubically speaking out against the zoo!
* Tweet the local authority with our suggested tweet:
@CeredigionCC ([link removed]) I am really concerned for the animals at @BorthZoo ([link removed]) where too many have suffered and died. It is clear the zoo is being poorly managed and this puts animals and the public at risk. Please use your powers to shut them down! #CloseBorthZoo
And there's more.
Just yesterday we released a report to press showing how one in five of all the animals at the zoo died in just one year. We obtained documents which listed the deaths showing that groups of monkeys and other species had died, including animals that would normally live to 100 years old.
It was also revealed that the new managers of the zoo used to run a business 'hiring out' (exploiting) animals for entertainment, called 'Extreme Animal Encounters'.
There is so much evidence to show that the animals at this zoo are in DIRE need of help and that is why I need to call on you once again.
I know you have helped before but please, in this urgent time I hope you can add your voice to the fight again, until these animals are safe.
So please, contact the council and give an urgent donation to our appeal if you can ([link removed]) , because we and the animals really need your help.
Thank you - I will keep you updated as much as I can!
For the animals,
Nicola O'Brien
Campaigns Director
P.S. More animals have been put at risk by this awful zoo. Whilst we deal with this breaking emergency please call on the council to shut this place down for good ([link removed]) and make a donation to our emergency appeal. ([link removed]) We can't do it without you! Thank you
