It's our neighbors, friends, veterans, families, and co-workers.

In fact, across the country, homelessness increased more last year than any other year on record. We all felt it in urban, suburban, and rural areas.

The United States needs a comprehensive approach to get this problem under control. We are working on a plan, and you can join us in putting the pressure on elected officials to help us bring housing costs down, build more affordable units, and aid our friends and neighbors. Chip in $1, $5, or whatever you can to help fight the housing crisis.

Nearly 1 in 5 unhoused Americans live in rural areas, and homelessness in a rural area is different from a city. Services are spread out, there is less affordable housing, and it is often less visible than urban homelessness. In rural states, folks are resorting to living in tents, cars, makeshift structures, abandoned homes, and broken-down RVs. All without power, running water, or basic sanitation.

Unsheltered homelessness isolates people, exposes them to the elements, and makes it harder for them to get to shelters or services — leading to chronic homelessness.

The election this year could be the most consequential election ever for housing policy. We are all feeling the pinch of higher rents, higher mortgages, and homelessness. That's why we're making this issue a top priority and demanding our elected officials and candidates to take bold actions.
