Hi friend,

Every person who runs for public office throws their hat in the ring for a reason. I ran because after spending two decades keeping my neighbors safe ahead of severe weather, I wanted to continue being their trusted communicator. I wanted to keep my neighbors ahead of what could hurt them by fighting to make our communities more healthy, safe, and sustainable for generations to come.

Well, this month we found out why my likely opponent, Joe McGraw, decided to run. He’s running to bring the same extremism that has thrown Washington into chaos here to Northwestern Illinois. My opponent admitted that he “prayed everyday that Roe v. Wade be overturned.”

Think about that. He prayed for people’s rights to be taken away, he prayed to restrict health care options for women in our communities, and now he wants to represent those same people in Congress?

By now we’re all used to extremist “MAGA Republicans” saying things that shock us, but I’ll be honest, this one really gets to me. Leaders should be bringing us together and protecting our rights, not stripping them away and dividing us.

Unfortunately, it looks like McGraw is getting traction with this dangerous message. We learned this week that he’s gained the backing and financial support of over a dozen Members of Congress, including Speaker Mike Johnson. Not to mention he’s seeking the endorsement of extreme anti-choice groups.

The risk here is imminent. We need to start pushing back against extremists like McGraw right now and send a message that our side has the upper hand.
