Dear John,

You can tell politicians it’s wrong to hike any tax right now and it’s really wrong to hike taxes without even doing their jobs and voting on it in Parliament.

On April 1, the Federal government is automatically hiking taxes on beer, wine and spirits. That’s wrong. About half the price of alcohol is already tax.

The tax hike itself is bad, but there’s a principle at stake here too.

The tax hike is automatic. That means MPs won’t even take responsibility for voting on it in Parliament. And that ignores a basic democratic principle: no taxation without representation.

The good news is that you still have a few weeks to fight the automatic tax hike.

And the even better news is that last year thousands of taxpayers like you took action. The government flinched and capped the tax hike. That saved us all more than $100 million.

Tens-of-thousands of taxpayers are signing the petition against automatic tax hikes. In a few days, everyone who’s signed the petition will get an email explaining how they can fight the automatic tax hike.

And we’re already seeing an impact. Because of the pressure from thousands of Canadian Taxpayers Federation supporters, MPs are going to debate a motion to reduce the tax hike (we want to scrap the tax hike completely, but cutting it is a good step forward). This is the perfect moment for you to get on board with the fight.

Will you sign our petition to kill the automatic tax hike altogether?

Thanks for taking the time to fight for taxpayers, you’re making a difference,

Carson Binda,
British Columbia Director – Canadian Taxpayers Federation

PS. In a few days we’re sending an email to everyone on this petition so we can all take action at once and demand change. Make sure you don’t miss it. Sign the petition here: https://www.taxpayer.com/petitions/stop-trudeaus-automatic-tax-hikes-
