On May 24, 2022, my ten-year-old son Uzi went to school and never came home.
A former student armed with an AR-15 stormed Robb Elementary School and slaughtered Uzi, 18 other elementary students, and two school staff.
The bullet went through Uzi’s back and tore his little body apart. It’s an image I’ll never forget.
Uzi had his whole life ahead of him – he loved life, telling jokes, and playing video games.
He changed my life forever and I miss him every single day.
I miss the small things, like how loud Uzi was.
I miss hollering at him to quiet down and go to bed.
I miss yelling at him to take the trash out.
But now there’s just silence.
The grief I felt knowing I would never hear my son’s voice again threatened to tear me apart.
Quickly, that grief turned into anger toward the cowardly politicians whose inaction allowed this to happen.
The fact is: Uzi was stolen from us because politicians like Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz do NOTHING while our children die at the hands of mass shooters with assault weapons.
That’s why I’ll never stop telling Uzi’s story and fighting to ensure no father – no family – ever faces the horror of losing a child in a mass shooting.

Honestly, I’m pissed off.
I’m pissed off that Uzi, and thousands more children, have been stolen by these weapons of war.
I’m pissed off that politicians put the gun lobby over our families’ lives again and again despite our pleas for change.
I’m pissed off that AR-15s like the one that murdered my son still roam the streets.
I’m pissed off that Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz refuse to take action, even after countless mass shootings occurred on their watch – including at a Houston church earlier this month.
And I’m using how pissed off I am to fuel my fight to ensure no one else loses their child to an assault weapon EVER again.
