Standing United Together Campaign

Dear SPUC Friend and Supporter,

Day 1: It hasn’t taken the abortion industry long to Exploit a National Crisis

Today is “day one” in a £250,000 fundraising campaign which is vital.

  • Vital for our Society’s very survival
(We have been fighting abortion relentlessly for 53 years – but honestly, I have NEVER been more worried about our future than I am today)

  • Vital for the unborn babies who need SPUC to stand up and fight for them in what promises to be an onslaught on the unborn like we’ve never seen before

  • And vital for the new mothers – often desperate, young, un-attached and un-supported – who will conceive over the next few months and become the prime targets of a ravenous abortion industry desperate to cash in on their misery.

£250,000 is the amount we are anticipating could well be lost in donations over the next 4 months due to the coronavirus crisis unfolding around us.
To make matters worse, a major spring fundraising appeal of 2020 has had to be postponed due to the printer being forced to shut down their business during the coronavirus outbreak.

The cash-flow impact is likely to be considerable.
This money is needed urgently to ensure that we can continue funding key campaigns that will save lives.
Campaigns like the one planned in Northern Ireland for April involving billboard advertising in Belfast, could be placed in jeopardy.

This campaign is vital as we seek to overturn the diabolical abortion regulations imposed on Northern Ireland by Westminster – abortion legislation which was opposed by every single Northern Ireland MP who takes their seat in the House of Commons.

We’ve never before resorted to an emergency appeal “online”.
This is a first.
But so, too, is the coronavirus crisis.
And this horrible crisis - as I will explain in a moment – is fraught with dangers for our unborn babies too.

I’d even go as far as describing the crisis we’re in today as the greatest de-stabilising force to have hit this country’s shores since war broke out in September 1939.

Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s declaration of war against Germany came
 on 3 September 1939

A sense of isolation and uncertainty is gnawing away at the whole country.

And for many, the fear about what lies in store for them, and their families and friends, in the days ahead is palpable.

Of course, God always draws good from evil and national crises inevitably bring out the best in people.

Standing United Together

No doubt you will have witnessed yourself how good neighbours, family members – even complete strangers – have been quick to rally around, recognise and respond to the needs of the less fortunate, and are selflessly putting others before themselves.

Sadly… and one could say ‘predictably’… there is NO sign whatever of this national outpouring of charity from our nation’s abortion industry.

In this time of grave national crisis, the response of Britain’s baby-killers is a chilling:

“Business as Usual”

Last Monday, as the thoughts of the nation were on an impending lockdown, we learned that the Government have given the go-ahead for DIY home abortions.
This is where medical abortions are completely undertaken at home by the women themselves.

This statement appeared on a government website:
“The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has approved 2 temporary measures in England to limit the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) and ensure continued access to early medical abortion services:
  • women and girls will be able to take both [abortion] pills for early medical abortion in their own homes, without the need to first attend a hospital or clinic
  • medical practitioners (doctors) will be able to prescribe both pills for the treatment of early medical abortion from their own homes”
Under current regulations girls and women wanting to abort must go to a registered clinic to take the first pill, mifepristone—also known as RU-486.  This drug works by killing the baby.

Edouard Sakiz, Chairman of Roussel-Uclaf, manufacturers of RU-486 said in August 1990:

"As abortifacient procedures go, RU486 is not at all easy to use.

“In fact, it is more complex to use than the technique of vacuum extraction...a woman who wants to end her pregnancy has to ‘live’ with her abortion for at least a week using this technique.

“It's an appalling psychological ordeal".

They are given the second abortion drug, misoprostol, to take 24 to 48 hours later.  This is the pill which expels the dead baby’s body from the womb.

For the first time ever, mothers who are undergoing legal abortion would be asked to take personal responsibility for killing their babies themselves.
And these deadly drugs would be being prescribed “via video link, telephone conference or other electronic means” just like ordering a pizza from Dominos.

As soon as I was informed of the Government’s announcement, I called our lawyers.

I instructed them to initiate immediate legal action on behalf of SPUC, seeking to overturn this callous, cynical and calculated piece of political opportunism perpetrated under the veil of the coronavirus pandemic.

Then this happened:

Within 24 hours, we saw the Government give permission for DIY abortions at home during the Coronavirus crisis, and then just as quickly rescind it.
Today the original pronouncement sanctioning both stages of medical abortion at home has been replaced with a notice:
“This [announcement] was published in error. There will be no changes to abortion regulations”.
SPUC was able to take emergency legal steps to seek to challenge the government ONLY because loyal SPUC supporters, like you, have stood united with SPUC and our babies in the past.

I was convinced that you would come to our aid again should the need arise because of your past charity, and because you are among that small but deeply loyal band of people who know the true and inestimable value of each human life.

Without you standing united behind SPUC, taking effective steps to defend Britain’s precious unborn babies is simply impossible in times of national crisis too.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this Government U-turn has infuriated the abortion lobby.

In its coverage on the government’s abortion U-turn story, the BBC afforded me a meagre seven lines in its 848-word report (above).

I emphasised the grave risks medical abortion performed at home posed to health of girls and women.

BPAS spokesman, Clare Murphy, on the other hand, said that home abortions are a “very safe and simple measure” for girls and women to take.

Really!

You have to wonder if Clare Murphy and her colleagues in the abortion industry have taken a leaf out of the book of pro-abortion politician, Rahm Emanuel, in a bid to push through their deadly plans.

The former Chicago mayor and chief of staff to President Barack Obama, is a convinced advocate of partial-birth abortion (infanticide), who famously said:

The abortion politician, Rahm Emanuel, believes that a national crisis presents a wonderful opportunity for furthering a political agenda

A DIY home abortion is NOT “safe” and it is NOT “simple”.
It is equivalent to a backstreet abortion in the house.
Just look at these research findings to get some idea of just how “safe” and “simple” medical DIY abortions really are:

  • For later medical abortions, after 13 weeks gestation, the proportion of incomplete medical abortions that needed subsequent surgical intervention varies widely between studies, ranging from 2.5% in one study up to 53% in a UK multicentre study.

  • Even for early medical abortions, up to 9 weeks gestation, the RCOG reports a Finnish study that found 6% of women needed subsequent surgical intervention compared with less than 1% of those having surgical abortions.

  • The incidence of haemorrhage is much higher in women undergoing medical abortion, (although there are discrepancies in reported rates due to ill-defined criteria in reporting). The Finnish record-linkage study of 42,600 women found rates of consultation for haemorrhage were 15.6% after medical compared to 2.1% after surgical abortion.

  • Hospitalisation rates, while low overall, are worse for medical abortions. Government stats for England and Wales show complications involving hospitalisation are more than twice as likely after medical abortions than after surgical ones: 206 compared to 88.

On Tuesday, SPUC contacted every single supporter on its email list and urged them to contact their MPs. MPs were asked to resist any move by the abortion lobby in Parliament to hijack the emergency Coronavirus Bill.

SPUC Activists Win the Day: DIY abortion amendments blocked in Parliament at the eleventh hour

On Wednesday evening I was informed by SPUC’s parliamentary director, Michael Robinson, that no amendments had been accepted or supported that would have changed the UK abortion regime.
We Won!

Above all, I thank God—the fount of all good in our world—for this great victory.

In the midst of these dark and troubling times, His mercy has shone much-needed light and hope on a bewildered nation.

And I thank every last one of SPUC’s army of loyal activists and donors too.

Your devotion to this great cause and your love for unborn babies is another great beacon of light that is piercing the darkness and showing the way.

Incredible things can be achieved Standing United Together

But please don’t imagine – not even for one minute – that we are out of the woods yet.

History teaches that the abortion lobby is at its most dangerous after suffering a humiliating defeat.

And this one has been all the more painful by the fact that its arch nemesis - SPUC – does not share its wealth or prestige or enjoy favoured-status among the mainstream media, and ever-growing swathes of parliament.

With odds likes these, the abortion lobby should never have lost.

“Never allow a crisis to go to waste. Start planning for the future.”

Following the cynical “crisis” advice offered by fellow abortion champion, Rahm Emanuel, 13 pro-abortion organisations have written to Health Secretary Matt Hancock urging him to amend the law and put in place emergency coronavirus DIY abortion measures.

The Royal College of Midwives, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and BPAS have all added their names to the letter.

On hearing about the Government’s U-turn on DIY abortions, BPAS’, Clare Murphy, said:
“We urge the Government to reinstate this safe and sensible policy as well as amend the law to enable one healthcare professional to authorise an abortion.
“The future of the UK’s abortion service and the health and well-being of many thousands of women with it depends on this.

“We were staggered by the reversal which we can only assume is a bureaucratic blunder which will soon be rectified.”

You see how in these dangerous times we must never drop our guard, and be ever-ready for the fight.
And that we must be ready to put our very modest resources to the best effect possible at a moment’s notice.

We know that the abortion lobby won’t let the current coronavirus crisis go to waste.
Even at this minute, as I type-out my appeal at 9:45 on Friday morning, someone, somewhere is plotting for a future with more deaths and more misery.

When the inevitable happens, and it willwe must be set to fight back.
That’s why it is so vital that the £250,000 target set for us by our financial advisers is hit by day 10 of this appeal.

Will you help see our Society through the gravest crisis in its 53-year history?

Will you help ensure that SPUC’s capacity to fight on over the next 4 critical months is not diminished by a devastating cash-crisis that could allow our babies to fall prey to the abortionist’s scalpel or deadly drugs?

  • If every person reading this email today were to set up a Direct Debit for £15 per month here [or increase an existing Direct Debit contribution to SPUC by that same amount], that would see us through to July, when the worst of this crisis will hopefully be behind us. We would then be practically home and dry.
I am all too aware that what I am asking calls for a super-human sacrifice on your part at a time of great economic uncertainty.

Indeed, making a contribution right now could well be an heroic act.
  • If you are unable to give by Direct Debit online, perhaps you would consider donating £15 or possibly £25, or even £100 or £500, with your credit or debit card today here.
Sometimes, the good God in his generosity grants pro-life people the means to help out on a level they would not have imagined possible at earlier, more financially pressing times in their lives.
  • Larger offerings in the range of £1,000 or £5,000 or even £10,000 or more, not only guarantee that this vital work goes on, but ensures that more lives are saved too.

PS: I cannot adequately put into words what your support means to our Society.  Whatever amount you can afford to give in these troubling times, be assured that every penny goes to standing up for unborn babies, and the new mothers who will conceive over the next few months and are wholly at the mercy of the abortion industry.  Thank you” for Standing United Together with SPUC.
