Jana Leigh was promoted to Associate General Counsel - Operations. Since joining OAH as a staff attorney in 2021, Jana has demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to our work. In her new role, Jana supervises and manages OAH's team of staff attorneys and collaborates with OAH managers and Executive Team to provide leadership for the agency?s mission, vision, values, and priorities.
Abigail Rankin was promoted to Associate General Counsel? - Projects and Planning. Abigail joined OAH as a staff attorney in 2023, and has quickly absorbed the law across our court?s jurisdiction. In this role, Abigail provides executive-level legal advice, counsel, direction, and representation to OAH's executive team; leads OAH's legislative and rulemaking activities; and strategically leads, directs, and manages OAH's data practices and municipal boundary adjustment programs.
Staff attorney positions open now
Make a difference in the lives of Minnesotans. OAH is hiring up to two additional Staff Attorneys to staff our Office of General Counsel. This is a hybrid work opportunity, working at least four days in the office per 2-week pay period. The Office of General Counsel is located in our St. Paul office. The posting is open until March 19, 2024, at midnight.
Staff Attorney position
OAH's team of Staff Attorneys advise judges in contested matters before the court. Core responsibilities include:
- Conducting legal research and analysis.
- Providing legal analysis and opinion.
- Independently preparing drafts of interim orders, medical summaries and final Findings and Orders and other final decisions.
- Serving as a point of contact for attorneys and pro se parties seeking answers to procedural questions.
Minimum qualifications
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.)
- Current licensure in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
- Demonstrate substantial legal writing skills.
- Intercultural competency: the ability to relate and communicate effectively with individuals who do not share the same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
- Ability to:
- Research, understand, interpret, and explain relevant law.
- Apply it in complex legal and factual settings.
- Speak and write effectively, including drafting clear, concise, and well-reasoned findings of fact, conclusions, and order.
- Work well as part of a team.
Preferred qualifications
- Prior executive branch or judicial branch experience conducting legal research and?drafting judicial opinions/orders/decisions.
- Demonstrated commitment to community and / or public service.
