Dear John,
you may be aware that Transport for London is currently consulting on long overdue cycling and walking improvements on Holland Park roundabout. The busy junction has seen almost 60 people injured in traffic accidents in the last 3 years, many seriously. The proposal would make cycling and walking between Sheperd's Bush and Notting Hill a lot safer and more pleasant than it currently is.
Please talke a look at the proposal here
The proposal includes provisions for a new protected cycle lane across the roundabout. Pedestrian crossings on these junctions are also widened. ?
While any proposal to improve road safety should be fairly uncontroversial, some of the usual suspects, including Tory politicians Tony Devenish, London Assembly member for West Central and Felicity Buchan, MP for Kensington, are making a lot of angry noise opposing the scheme, hoping to improve their dire electoral prospects by steering up unnecessary conflicts between road users.
Our own Rajiv Sinha, who is running to replace Devenish on the 2nd May, knows better: "Making cycling and walking safer actually helps motorists, as it takes cars off the street, easing congestion overall. Everyone is winner when fewer feel the need to drive."
Please join myself, Rajiv and many others in expressing your support for the scheme in the TFL consultation today (it closes on the 3rd of March). It will take less than 5 mins.
Express your support here
Thank you and best wishes
Fabian
