Earlier tonight, Attorney General Eric Holder made a big announcement, and we wanted you to be among the first to know:

The NDRC and affiliates’ are launching a 10 Year Plan to fight gerrymandering and create fair maps across the country.

AG Holder put it best: The NDRC was made for this moment.

Since our founding in 2017, the NDRC and our affiliates have helped establish what the New York Times described in 2022 as the fairest national congressional map in 40 years. And in the past few months, we’ve seen fairer maps established in even more places, like Wisconsin, Alabama, and Louisiana.

But our progress is constantly challenged, alongside new, brazen attempts to gerrymander — there is simply no “off season” in redistricting. I want to tell you exactly what we plan to achieve in the decade ahead. Because one thing is for certain: We can’t do it without you.

If you’re with us, add your name to say you’re ready to fight for fair redistricting for the long haul >> [[link removed]]

Fighting for fair and representative maps is a crucial part of the fight to protect and enhance our democracy — and it goes well beyond one election cycle. (New, fairer maps were just finalized in Louisiana last month!)

Now, playing the long-game doesn’t mean quietly going to the side and only showing back up at opportune moments. Instead, we’ve got to be actively engaged at all stages of the process. That’s why we’ve broken our plan into five parts:

-Developing state-of-the-art mapping capabilities: Technology and the use of AI are changing rapidly, and our investments in best-in-class mapping tools will ensure that we are always on the cutting edge, giving us a leg up in ensuring future maps are fairer than ever before.

-Shifting and building power in the states: The NDRC will build power so that we can shift power, investing in Democracy Defenders who are aligned with our mission in states across the country. Let’s ensure voters can choose their politicians, and not the other way around.

-Prioritizing grassroots mobilization and public education: We will mobilize supporters like you to get involved in efforts on the ground where they matter most, from fair redistricting to a fair and accurate 2030 Census.

-Pushing accountability efforts against bad maps and the corruption of redistricting processes: The NDRC and its affiliates will move the needle toward representative democracy by holding legislators accountable to their voters. That means playing defense to protect good process and fair maps, while going on offense to enforce the Voting Rights Act and challenge racial and partisan gerrymanders.

-Advancing redistricting reforms and policy changes at both the state and the federal level: We are already shaping improved redistricting processes in states that faltered during this past redistricting cycle, and we’re not stopping now.

None of this work will lead to victories overnight or even all at once. Most days, it’ll feel like we’re playing whack-a-mole while running a marathon. But together, I know we can get far fairer maps in 2032.

This plan is all about the long haul, and we need to know who’s committed to this fight alongside us. Are you in? Add your name to say you’ll be a part of this 10 Year Plan.

We’ll have more soon about the best way to get involved in this work and keep up our momentum.

For now, thank you!

Marina
