Earlier this month, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that embryos have the same protections as children under a state wrongful death law, leading some of the state’s largest IVF providers to pause operations. This ruling is expected to have wide implications for IVF beyond wrongful death litigation.

To be completely clear: This ruling, which puts IVF in jeopardy in Alabama, is a direct result of the Dobbs decision that struck down Roe v. Wade. States can now determine when life begins, impacting reproductive care beyond abortion.
