John, I lost.

In 2022, right-wing super PACs and cryptocurrency billionaires spent $3.6 million dollars to defeat my run for Congress. They were threatened by a young, progressive, Muslim woman running to build a brighter future.

While we couldn’t overcome being outspent nearly 4-to-1, we shocked everyone with how close we got – proving the unprecedented power of our grassroots movement.

I won’t lie, John. Losing that race and my opportunity to represent the working families of NC-04 was painful. But you don’t need to be in Washington DC to bring about change or fight for a brighter future!

The first time I ran for office was for Durham County Commissioner, because I know how important local politics are… And that’s why I’m running for re-election to keep on fighting for progress in my community.

But the truth is, Americans as a whole don’t pay much attention to local politics, despite it having such a huge impact on our lives.

And since most people don’t pay attention to local politics, there are thousands more undecided voters who I need to reach.

Now, our election is just 7 days away and I’m working every second to get Durhamites to be involved with our local politics.
