Public Notice: Land Quality Advisory Board Meeting - March 21, 2024, 10:00 a.m. (MST)

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Land Quality Division (LQD), will hold an Advisory Board (AB) Meeting beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 21, 2024. The meeting will be via video conference call. The major item of discussion will be an introduction and scoping of three draft chapters of new rules for the Source Material Program. House Bill 0061 was approved during the 2023 legislative session and granted authority for the DEQ to promulgate regulations to become an agreement state with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the regulation of source material. The following chapters will be presented to the AB for comment and discussion: 1) Chapter 4 ? Licensing Requirements for Source Material; 2) Chapter 7 ? Fees; and 3) Chapter 8 ? Risk Informed, Performance Based Licensing and Inspection. In addition to the Source Material Program rules, the LQD will present a minor revision to Uranium Recovery Program (URP) Chapter 4 ? Licensing Requirements for Source and Byproduct Material. The proposed revision to Chapter 4 was drafted to increase the license term from ten years to twenty years. The LQD will be seeking the AB?s recommendation to proceed to formal rulemaking for URP Chapter 4 at this meeting.
