*LANSING, Mich. ?* Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Michigan Board of Medicine, Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Task Force on Physician's Assistants, Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan Tree Fruit Commission, The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund , Michigan Board of Cosmetology, Health Information Technology, Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing and Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice.?

Today?s appointees represent Michigan?s young professionals, communities of color, seniors, and more. The appointees announced this week build on Governor Whitmer?s work to ensure appointees reflect Michigan?s diverse population. Sixty percent of appointees are women or people of color, and the Whitmer cabinet is the most diverse in Michigan history.?

Hassan F. Abdallah, of Dearborn, is the Head of Healthcare Compliance at MCRA, a leading global CRO & advisory healthcare firm. Abdallah currently serves as the Chairman of the Dearborn Charter Commission and was formerly the Interim Chief Compliance Officer at Health Alliance Plan (HAP) of Michigan and is a co-founder of the Safe Substance Abuse Coalition. Abdallah received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wayne State University, and his Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Hassan F. Abdallah is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027. Hassan F. Abdallah succeeds Teresa Robinson whose term has expired.???

Dr. Abdulghani Sankari, of Bloomfield, is a professor of medicine and the assistant dean for academic affairs at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as Director of Medical Education at Ascension-Providence Hospital. Dr. Sankari obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine, along with a Master of Science in medical research and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Wayne State School of Medicine. Dr. Abdulghani Sankari is appointed to represent physicians for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027. Dr. Abdulghani Sankari succeeds Donald Tynes whose term has expired.??

Aurelia Gooden, of Detroit, is a Stellantis Production Way Lead at Stellantis. She also is a freelance a pianist, chamber music composer, and arranger. Gooden received her Bachelor of Arts in music, Master of Arts in music, and Master of Science in manufacturing systems at Jacksonville State University. Aurelia Gooden is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2025. Aurelia Gooden succeeds Mary Stearns who has resigned.??

The Michigan Board of Medicine works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of medical doctors in the state. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public's health, safety, and welfare. This responsibility is implemented by the Board by ascertaining minimal entry level competency of medical doctors and requiring continuing medical education during licensure.???

Dr. Mustafa Mark Hamed, of Novi, is a physician at Henry Ford Health Systems, the medical director of emergency medicine and hospital medicine at Mckenze Hospital, and an EMS medical director for Sanilac Medical Servies. He previously served as the president of the Michigan Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Physicians (MAPPP). Dr. Hamed earned his Doctor of Medicine from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine of the Cayman Islands. Dr. Mustafa Hamed is appointed to represent the Board of Medicine for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027. Dr. Mustafa Hamed succeeds Bryan Little whose term was expired.??

The Michigan Task Force on Physician?s Assistants works with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of physician?s assistants in this state. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the Board to promote and protect the public's health, safety, and welfare.????

Lisa Kamischke, of Richland, is a customer care supervisor at Epredia in Kalamazoo. She received a Bachelor of Science in healthcare administration from the University of Michigan, Flint and a Master of Arts in organizational change leadership from Western Michigan University. Lisa Kamischke is appointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2025. Lisa Kamischke succeeds Deborah Venice Smith who has resigned.??

The Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine was originally formed with the enactment of Public Act 156 of 1956. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the Board to promote and protect the public's health, safety, and welfare. This responsibility is implemented by the Board by ascertaining minimal entry level competency of health practitioners. The Board also has the obligation to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public's health, safety, and welfare. The Board works with the Department to oversee Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians.?

Vanessa Cartwright, of Detroit, is serving in Americorps and is the owner and operator of Healthy Baby Services in Detroit. Cartwright received a certificate of completion of the Career Sampling Program from Wayne Community College. Vanessa Cartwright is reappointed to represent the general public for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2027.?

The Michigan Board of Cosmetology was created under Article 12 of Public Act 299 of 1980, as amended, to license and regulate the practice of cosmetology in Michigan. Article 12 defines cosmetology as one of the following services or a combination of the following services: Hair care services, skin care services, manicuring services, and electrology. The members of the cosmetology industry who are licensed by the department include schools of cosmetology, both public and private, beauty shops, cosmetologists, manicurists, cosmetology instructors, electrologists, estheticians (skin care specialists), and natural hair culturists (braiders).?

_*Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services*_?

Dr. Yasmina Bouraoui, of Lansing, is executive director of the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC). Dr. Bouraoui previously served as deputy director of MDDC. Dr. Bouraoui holds a master's degree in public health and a doctorate in Public Health Policy, both from the University of Michigan. Dr. Yasmina Bouraoui is appointed to represent the Disability advocacy groups for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2025. Dr. Yasmina Bouraoui succeeds Khodr Farhat whose term has expired.??

The Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services reviews, analyzes, and advises Michigan's rehabilitation programs and services, and advises the department director and Governor. The Council works in partnership with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs' Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (LEO-BSBP).?

Rex Menold, of Lansing, is the chief technology officer for the State of Michigan, Department of Technology Management and Budget. Prior to this, he was the deputy chief security officer, state administrative manager, and information technology manager for the State of Michigan, Department of Technology Management and Budget. Mr. Menold holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. Rex Menold is appointed to represent the designee of the Director of DTMB for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring August 3, 2027. Rex Menold succeeds Jack Harris who has resigned.?

The Michigan Health Information Technology (HIT) Commission's mission is to facilitate and promote the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of an interoperable health care information infrastructure in Michigan.?

Trever Meachum, of Hartford, is the production manager and partner at High Acres Fruit Farm. He holds a Bachelor of Science in horticulture from Michigan State University. Trever Meachum is reappointed to represent District 2 growers for a term commencing March 1, 2024, and expiring February 28, 2027.?

Charles Rasch, of Conklin, is the owner of Windy Ridge Orchards, LLC, a family farm where they grow apples and peaches. Charles Rasch is reappointed to represent District 2 growers for a term commencing March 1, 2024, and expiring February 28, 2027.??

The Michigan Tree Fruit Commission was created pursuant to the Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act for the purpose of improving the economic position and competitiveness of the Michigan tree fruit industry.???

John Gardner, of Rockwood, is the manager of veteran initiatives and DEI at Roush. He has also served as the Veteran Services Department director for Wayne County and was an active-duty member of the United States Air Force for 24 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in organizational management from Ashford University, and a Master of Human Resource Management from the University of Arizona. John Gardner is reappointed to represent independent veterans for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring February 25, 2027.?

Rodney Loonsfoot, of Baraga, serves as a Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Council Member and Tribal Veteran Service Officer for Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. He is a veteran and served in the Marine Corps and Michigan National Guard. Mr. Loonsfoot is reappointed to represent independent veterans for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring February 25, 2027.?

The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund was created in 1946 from $50 million in postwar reserve funds. In 1996, the Veterans Trust Fund was provided additional protection by being added to the State Constitution with voter approval of Proposal C. The Veterans Trust Fund was established to provide grants for the emergency needs of veterans. The Veterans Trust Fund, utilizing approximately $2 million in interest earnings from the trust, administers the Emergency Grant Program. Emergency Grants are available to honorably discharged war time service veterans and their dependents during times of unforeseen and short-term financial emergencies or hardships. Veterans Trust Fund grant policies and adjudication, county committee appointments and expenditure from trust earnings are governed by this board.??

_*Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice*_?

Carol S. Jackson, of Mount Pleasant, serves as a Magistrate of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe-Tribal Court. In 2018, she assisted in the development and the implementation of the annual Statewide Tribal Opioid Summit, which she currently chairs, along with the Expungement Clinic at the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Jackson received her educational training from Mid-Michigan and Bay Mills Community Colleges and the Michigan Judicial Institute. Carol?S. Jackson is appointed to represent experience in tribal law enforcement and in tribal communities for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring August 2, 2026. Carol Jackson succeeds Judge Allie Maldonado who has resigned.?

The Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice was created by Governor Whitmer's Executive Order No. 2022-7 which abolished the Committee restructured by Executive Order No. 2017-12 and recreates the committee in alignment with the requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act. Under the executive order, the committee is tasked with the development and review of the state?s juvenile justice plan. Following the release of recommendations from governor?s Juvenile Justice Reform Task Force, the new Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice will include a tribal representative and increases representation of community-based services and supports for young people.??

Gerid Adams, of Wyoming, is an account manager for Caption Call. He received his Bachelor of Science in computer science and information technology from Ferris State University and a business management certificate from the Van Buren Vo-Tech Center. Gerid Adams is designated as chair for a term commencing February 27, 2024, and expiring January 18, 2025.??

The Advisory Council on Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing serves to advise the Department of Civil Rights on matters pertaining to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing persons.?
