SBE CONTINUES PARTNERSHIP WITH WYOMING?S FUTURE OF LEARNING COLLABORATIVE AROUND STATE ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) took action at its February 15 meeting to continue their collaborative work with Wyoming's Future of Learning Partnership. The partnership, comprised of? Governor Mark Gordon; State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder; the Wyoming State Board of Education; the University of Wyoming College of Education; the Wyoming Community College Commission; and the Wyoming Association of School Administrators, aims to create a more student centered education system that is based on individual learning needs and interests and to partner with Wyoming industries to better prepare students for careers.

The SBE will continue the collaboration with other partnership members in reviewing the state assessment and accountability systems and identifying opportunities to bring meaning to students and support student centered learning practices within these systems.

?Folks expect their educational leaders to work together for education in Wyoming,'' said SBE Chair Bill Lambert. ?That is not an unreasonable expectation and will be my focus as board chair.??

Wyoming?s Future of Learning Collaborative reported during the meeting that a second round of the Governor?s Re-imagining and Innovating the Delivery of Education (RIDE) student centered learning pilots has been initiated. Nine districts in the first round of pilots will hold a statewide Celebration of Learning on May 3, at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, where staff and students will share work from the initial year of the pilot.

The board also elected to continue the tenure of current leadership with Bill Lambert serving as Chair, Dr. Mark Mathern as Vice-Chair, and Ellen Creagar as Treasurer.

An update on early literacy, including the Wyoming Department of Education rules on K-3 literacy, was provided as the board prepares to review and revise state English Language Arts standards.

The next meeting of the SBE will be held virtually on April 18, 2024.
