In case you missed it, a court in Alabama ruled last week that frozen embryos are legally considered children – meaning people can legally be held liable for their destruction and throwing the entire process of IVF into limbo. Three clinics in Alabama have halted IVF procedures since the ruling already.
If you were wondering what could happen after Roe v. Wade was struck down, this is it. We’re already starting to see similar legislation in other states like Texas and Florida.
But Democrats know this is a fight we won’t back down from. In Florida, extremists have postponed similar legislation after sustained pressure from Democrats in the wake of the Alabama ruling.
This is why it’s so important that we invest and build the party we need to meet this moment in every single state – including ours . We can see from this IVF ruling that legal precedent can trickle to other states – and we can also see that with strong, consistent Democratic pressure, these extremist positions can be staved off.
