The Council, Oldham Foodbank and Action Together are working together to coordinate the delivery of emergency food and other essential personal and household basic items to people in need. This is for people who are unable to leave the house and don’t have a trusted friend, neighbour or family member to help them. This could be someone of any age.

The helpline – 0161 770 7007 – is open from 9am–5pm on weekdays and 11am to 2pm on weekends.

We aim to get back to people within 24 hours and a package of basic items such as food and other essentials will be coordinated in the following days.

Delivery of prescriptions medicines will be handled separately by local pharmacies who will be contacting people on GP lists.

The support is for those who are genuinely in emergency need.
Councillor Sean Fielding, leader of the council, talks about the importance of the helpline. ([link removed][UNIQID])

New temporary bin services during coronavirus
Oldham Council is temporarily introducing weekly general waste collections from Monday, March 30.

Only put out your grey bin by 7am on your usual collection day. No other bins will be collected for the time being.

Temporarily you can now put all of your waste materials – including food and recyclable materials – into your grey rubbish bin.

If your grey bin is not emptied, take it back into your property and put it back out the following week on your usual collection day.

In these unprecedented times, we are taking this step so we can maintain collections and also to ensure that waste is collected from homes on a regular basis.

Once the crisis has ended we will go back to our three weekly collections cycle as recycling and cutting waste is important.

Arkwright Street Household Waste Recycling Centre has been closed by Recycle for Greater Manchester following the government announcement that people should stay at home.
