Recently, a federal court rejected Georgia’s attempts to summarily dismiss a claim by the Department of Justice in a lawsuit challenging the state's 2021 voter suppression law, Senate Bill 202. The DOJ claims that S.B. 202 violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
They're right, and these ongoing attacks on voting rights by vote-suppressing state legislatures across the country highlight how critical our fight to make every vote count is for our democracy.

Election laws on the books in Georgia and Texas remain a threat, John.
Texas's SB1, passed into law in 2021, has made it harder to vote in the elections since , with increasing number of ballots thrown out. It's harder to get a mail-in ballot, harder to submit it, and laws passed by cities and counties to make it easier to vote have been overruled by this state law. Despite challenges still proceeding in court, it largely remains in effect.
Georgia's 2021 law did much the same, with the added bonuses of criminalizing giving water or food to voters waiting in line, closing polling places, reducing drop box locations, and so much more . Again -- challenges are proceeding in the courts but voters are still restricted in the meantime.
What does it all add up to? Vengeful partisans across the country who want to protect their power and have given themselves the ability to manipulate elections across their states . And these are just the most blatant power grabs in two states with a terrible history of voter suppression.
Opponents of voting rights have gone too far, John. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can today to fight back against voter suppression bills like these and defend our right to vote >> [[link removed]]

Like it or not, the fact remains that opponents of voting rights consistently attack our cities and the voters who live in and around them. More and more it is their explicit strategy as their ability to skew elections has eroded and barriers to voting have been broken down.
These bills are written by anti-voting election officials in order to prop up their own party and protect their power, even if it hurts the communities they represent. This is a practice that must stop , and stop immediately.
