The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting all of us, including children. What was startling about watching the economic downturn 12 years ago in 2008 was realizing that kids would have such increased vulnerability. This crisis is showing even more severe impacts. Many children and families are cut-off from school meals and food pantries. People will be newly facing homelessness. Children won’t be able to see the teachers, coaches, youth group leaders, and counselors who made them feel safe. Children who are used to connection and excitement may experience a void. These are the same factors that make children at increased risk of trafficking. Kids need food, safe places to call home, and nurturing people to provide stability and support. If you and I aren't providing that for them a predator could be.
 
Love146 will continue to hold steady for the survivors in our care today, and we know our prevention work has strengthened thousands of children already.

While our frontline staff are still serving youth, it will take more than one dedicated organization to support all the children who need help. If there are youth you’ve been connected to, keep reaching out to them across the physical distance. If your school system isn't putting plans in place to make sure kids have meals, you could be that voice. If your town isn't talking about how to support families and provide stability and connection, you could be that voice. I don't have all the answers, but we must do our part in making sure that the people who are making decisions know that we care, that kids matter, and that this is a top priority to us all.
