The core personal consumption expenditures price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation metric, is expected to increase 0.4% in January from December when the official figure is released Thursday. It would be the second month in a row of acceleration and could prompt the Fed to hold off on lowering rates until it is certain that inflation is going down. Also due this week are durable goods orders and the Institute of Supply Management's manufacturing data for February.

Freight logistics services provider Flexport is relaunching Convoy as a business-to-business marketplace for smaller truckers and carriers to access global shippers with features including access to real-time information, shipment tracking, pricing and on-time performance data. Flexport bought Convoy's intellectual property assets and technology last year as the freight logistics services provider seeks to create a unified platform for global shipment.

Operations and Technology
Many companies have been updating their warehouses with advanced technology such as automated storage and retrieval systems but have been overlooking their fire protection systems, which are often outdated and serve manual operations, says Tracey Bellamy, chief engineering officer for Telgian Engineering and Consulting, a fire protection company. Bellamy says companies should identify any hazards in the facility and carry out large-scale fire tests to design a protection system for each hazard.

Walmart, suppliers reach emissions goal ahead of schedule

Walmart's Project Gigaton, which aimed to remove 1 billion metric tons of greenhouse-gas emissions from its supply chain, hit that goal in seven years instead of the 13 years the retailer originally projected. The program, which doesn't charge suppliers to participate, found the top use case was emissions reduction, followed by avoidance and sequestration, which includes carbon storage.

Australian researchers plan to embed wireless charging technology for heavy vehicles on a stretch of road of just less than a mile as part of a $5.4 million initiative. Mehdi Seyedmahmoudian, a professor of new-energy technology research at Swinburne University in Melbourne, said electrifying commercial vehicles will contribute "to a greener, safer and more efficient transport sector."
