1) Natural Gas Is the Energy Source of the Future
One of life’s great mysteries is why climate change fanatics are against natural gas. As we’ve said many times on these pages, natural gas is a wonder fuel. Abundant, made in America, reliable, efficient, and clean burning. Oh and it’s cheaper than it’s ever been. This chart from the Wall Street Journal tells the story:

[link removed]
The only explanation for the green movement’s relentless and mindless opposition to natural gas is that they don’t WANT cheap and abundant energy. These are modern-day environmental puritans who believe that we have to endure pain and suffering as penance for our wealth and high standard of living.

2) Why Is there a Blue State Housing Shortage?
Here’s a conundrum of sorts. Even as people are fleeing California in recent years, housing prices in places like San Francisco continue to skyrocket. In Texas, despite a massive population boom, price increases have been far more muted.

[link removed]
The major explanation is that blue states and cities impose land-use and zoning regulations to restrict the building of affordable housing. Getting rid of these laws would be a major step toward stemming the homelessness crisis.

3) Democratic Governors: Private Schools Are Only for the Rich and Privileged – Like Us
A USA Today column published over the weekend and written by two Democratic governors adamantly argues against private school scholarship accounts that would allow lower-income families to attend the best schools. Did we mention that both governors sent their own kids to private schools?

[link removed]
The piece is such a towering monument to hypocrisy that it’s hard to believe they thought they could get away with it.

It has become so common to see opponents of school choice — even public school teachers themselves — send their own kids to private schools that we could fill the high school football stadium with these folks. Their argument can be summarized as: Good schools for me, but not for thee.

4) Why Democrats Love Illegal Immigration
There’s some good news about progressive efforts to undermine the tradition that only US citizens should be allowed to vote in US elections.

An appeals court struck down as unconstitutional a New York City law that would have allowed non-citizens to vote. The law, passed in 2021 and backed by Mayor Eric Adams, would have allowed around 800,000 non-citizens in the city—green card holders and others with federal work authorization—to vote in local elections.

[link removed]
Murad Awawdeh, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, denounced the ruling because "immigrant New Yorkers deserve a say in how their local government functions and spends their tax money." They actually have such a way already – becoming a citizen, which can happen only five years after someone legally enters the U.S.

Federal laws have long held that non-citizens cannot vote in federal elections. But more and more cities are trying to implement non-citizen voting. Last year, the Washington D.C. city council passed a law allowing non-citizens — even illegal immigrants and foreign diplomats — to cast votes in local elections.

It’s a well-known fact that poorly maintained voter registration lists make it easy for anyone to vote in any election if they are brazen enough.

A federal study has found that up to 3% of the 30,000 individuals called for jury duty from voter registration rolls over a two-year period in just one U.S. district court in Florida were not U.S. citizens.

There is no reliable method to determine the number of non-citizens registered or actually voting because most laws to ensure that only citizens vote are ignored, are inadequate, or are systematically undermined by government officials. Those who ignore the implications of non-citizen registration and voting are either willfully blind to the problem or may actually favor this form of illegal voting.

Even worse is that many states are allowing Automatic Voter Registration at government welfare offices, which can in many cases allow non-citizens to register to vote. This CTUP study by John Fund ([link removed]) exposes the problem. How many of the millions of illegals allowed in by Biden will be voting this Fall?

5) Europe's Revolt Against Climate Bullies
The entire continent of Europe is in revolt against the Net Zero decarbonization policies of bureaucratic elites. Motorists are furious at plans to ban sales of combustion engines. Farmers are mounting blockades over schemes to take away many of their cows along with their right to use pesticides.

[link removed]

Every nation in the European Union will be voting to seat members of parliament in Brussels in early June, and polls show that climate skeptic parties are likely to place first or second in a majority of the 27 nations.

Politico Europe has an excellent summary of the shape of this revolt in each of the EU member countries. Here is their summary:

Green parties are taking the hit — polling shows they will face deep electoral pain when EU citizens vote in June. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also trying to run away from the green parts of her legacy. In fact, those pushing for faster action to protect the climate and nature are being left high and dry almost everywhere…

In the wealthy north, where climate policy is biting deeper into people’s personal choices, the blowback is rooted in a perceived (sic) affront to individual liberty. In the East, cost-of-living pressures are pushing green politics to the backburner while the EU gets framed as a green bully.
