Friend --

Quite a bit to get to this week as we approach the 1-month mark until the two special elections in the 3rd and the 9th. There are several events in support of Dr. Greg Murphy and Sen. Dan Bishop, so check those out at the bottom. Let's get started.

WHAT HAPPENED

STORIES FROM THE NATION

There were two absolutely horrific shootings this past weekend, and our prayers go out to the victims of both unspeakable events. Allegedly, the El Paso shooter - who was captured alive and prosecutors will seek the death penalty <[link removed]> - was a white supremacist who supposedly wrote a manifesto. The second, in Dayton, was allegedly a supporter of Antifa and other far-left figures <[link removed]>. Here's what the President had to say. Fox News <[link removed]>

Former Vice President Joe Biden is a walking gaffe machine. Speaking about the shootings, he named the locations as Houston and Michigan instead of El Paso and Ohio. Yesterday, he made two big ones. Encompassing the modern Democrat Party, he said, "Choose truth over facts." <[link removed]> Check out his other gaffe that should be fun to explain. Business Insider <[link removed]>

There have been quite a few reports over the shady activity between the far-left Justice Democrats PAC and AOC's chief of staff. Now, Ocasio-Cortez's chief abruptly resigned and is now under investigation from the feds. Yikes. New York Post <[link removed]>

Rep. Joaquin Castro, brother of presidential candidate Julian Castro, put out a list of donors from the San Antonio area that had contributed to President Trump, including their places of business, conveniently excluding multiple Hispanic donors in his list. Six of those donors had previously contributed to him or his brother, and they are FURIOUS. Daily Caller <[link removed]>

STORIES FROM NC

Conservative groups are unloading on Pelosi protege Greedy (Dan) McCready, pummeling him with ads from the Congressional Leadership Fund <[link removed]>, Club For Growth <[link removed]>, and the NRCC <[link removed]>. Because the Crystal Ball rating system at UVA changed the race from Toss-up to Leans Republican <[link removed]>, McCready has taken to smearing Sen. Bishop with absurd conspiracy theories. The Washington Free Beacon <[link removed]>

Governor Cooper and a host of his far-left allies tried to stop voter ID from becoming law despite the overwhelming approval from the state. The requirement for photo ID, now enshrined in the state constitution, begins for the 2020 elections. Carteret County News-Times <[link removed]>

The NCGA has a new member! Jake Johnson, a Polk County Commissioner, was chosen to replace Rep. Cody Henson after his resignation. The next generation of conservative leaders are stepping up, led by Johnson (now the youngest member of the NCGA) and Arianna Del Palazzo (youngest county commissioner). Congrats! Times-News <[link removed]>

Cooper's handpicked Chair for the State Board of Elections abruptly resigned last week, allegedly for telling a mysoginistic joke. You can bet that the real person pulling the strings in the administration, anti-military advisor Ken Eudy <[link removed]>, was the person behind it. A new chair will be selected on Tuesday, so meet the new NCSBE member: Democrat-turned unaffiliated-turned Democrat Damon Circosta, the leader of the AJ Fletcher foundation (which funds far-left wing causes in NC). NC Civitas <[link removed]>

TRACKING YOUR REPRESENTATIVES

CONGRESS

As mentioned, both chambers are out for their August recess. Speaker Pelosi is desperately trying to get Sen. McConnell to call the Senate back into session to vote on the House-passed gun reform (read: further restriction of the 2A) bills. McConnell is having none of it, so activists threatened to "just stab the m*****f****r" <[link removed]> in a video outside of his home. McConnell's campaign account posted the video of the threats made against the Senator, and then Twitter suspended the campaign account! It's a move that could have serious implications for social media giants <[link removed]>.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

While Cooper continues his hostage of the budget over his Medicaid-expansion-or-nothing ultimatum, both chambers are working to get things done in the meantime. Instead of expanding government to address those less fortunate that fall in the health coverage gap, so the House passed a bill for Association Health Plans <[link removed]> on a bipartisan vote, and it's expected to move quickly in the Senate. Passed 49-0 in the Senate, the House will take up S.B. 683 <[link removed]>, aimed at preventing absentee ballot fraud, next week. The Senate passed the Excellent Public Schools Act, which "addresses in-classroom instruction, reading camps, educator training, and data collection <[link removed]>," and it was quickly passed by the House.
