Liz Willen Dear Reader,

The suddenly homeschooling ([link removed]) parents. The scrambling college students, forced off campus ([link removed]) , many with destinations unknown, now becoming online learners. ([link removed]) The canceled productions, recitals, sports meets, and graduations
([link removed]) , dwindling endowments ([link removed]) , remote teachers ([link removed]) and a changing college admissions ([link removed]) timetable. And thankfully, within all of this, tips for isolated students ([link removed]) and parents, ([link removed]) along with small acts of kindness
([link removed]) .

These are among the stories that Hechinger Report journalists have been reporting nonstop since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, steadfast in two areas that have always been our emphasis: inequality and innovation. And we will continue to do so, round the clock (even as many of us are homeschooling our own children) from our posts in Austin (Texas), Boston, Jackson (Miss.), New York City, Philadelphia, Portland (Ore.), Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington (Del.).

As you may imagine, support from individuals is critically important now. In an ever-evolving situation like this, your donations enable us to be nimble in our reporting, further strengthening and advancing our work.
To respond to the crisis, we have launched a special section ([link removed]) - please check it out when you can. It’s a way to both share our reporting on the virus and solicit from our readers the personal impacts this pandemic is having on their lives. One heartening result I’m happy to share comes from my recent story on kindness ([link removed]) : a pre-med (and pregnant) community college student, who lacks access to a laptop, received a donation after a compassionate reader read the article and learned of her plight.
These sorts of outcomes help underscore the need for our work, which keeps families, teachers and concerned citizens informed about issues affecting our education system.
I agree that quality nonprofit journalism matters. I'll support The Hechinger Report! ([link removed])
Thank you again for being committed to education and nonprofit journalism. We are committed to being there for you, but we can’t do it without your support. If you value the work we are doing in this crisis, please donate today ([link removed]) .

Thank you in advance and warm regards,
Liz Willen, Editor in Chief
