Team, there’s no excuse for this.

When people send their representatives to the Capitol, they expect them to do their jobs.

But once again, we find ourselves on the edge of a Republican government shutdown.

It’s a crisis owned entirely by the GOP in the House, by Speaker Mike Johnson and his extremist caucus — a crisis entirely of their own making. At every turn they are incapable of the very basics of governing, the job they were sent to the Capitol to do.

The extremist House Freedom Caucus proposed a funding bill that is unacceptable. Among other extremist positions it would further restrict access to reproductive health care for members of the Military and slash our commitment to fighting climate change — one of the greatest National Security threats our nation faces. Reports are that Mike Johnson is too weak to oppose their fringe agenda.

And if Republicans fail to pass a funding bill, there will be grave consequences. Chief among them a shutdown of the VA, crippling access to the health care and support programs that countless Veterans depend on.

Whatever happens, VoteVets will be pushing to fund the government and deliver on the promises we made to the men and women who served our nation. They have earned that much.

And we will hold every Republican who would restrict those rights, slash those benefits, or endanger our National Security to account.

Of that you have our word.

So please, if you can, help us hold their feet to the fire and get the government funded. Make a contribution to VoteVets today, if you can afford it.
