Congressional Report: Week of February 19

Last week, as Congress left Washington for the Presidents' Day recess, I traveled across Texas' 28th Congressional District to meet with local officials and constituents.

I started the week in Laredo, where I participated in the annual George Washington Birthday Celebration and Parade. I am proud of Laredo's unique tradition of celebrating Presidents' Day and was pleased to be able to join. Thank you to everyone in the Laredo community who made this event possible.

Later in the week, I traveled to San Antonio to deliver an update to stakeholders on my work in Congress. It was good to be back with many friends to celebrate the great things we were able to accomplish for Bexar County in 2023. Thank you to my state and local partners across TX-28 for the work you do every day for South Texas.

My Week Across TX-28

Kicking off Washington's Birthday Celebration

I was honored to help kick off George Washington’s Birthday Celebration this week at the International Bridge Ceremony in Laredo. We exchanged “abrazos” in the spirit of respect for our neighboring border communities.

It was great to see dignitaries from both sides of the border, including the Governor of Tamaulipas Américo Villarreal Anaya, and the Mayor of Laredo, Victor Treviño.

Center to Counter Human Trafficking at TAMIU

This week, I announced $1,000,000 for TAMIU’s Center for Countering Human Trafficking!

I previously secured funding to support training for health care workers and educators likely to encounter human trafficking victims.

This research will help reduce human trafficking at our ports of entry while tackling the devastating consequences of the human trafficking industry in our communities.

Thank you to Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp for coming down to Laredo and working with me to secure these funds.

Honoring Border Patrol Agent Camacho

In Laredo, I was able to honor Border Patrol Agent Stephanie Denise Camacho, who tragically lost her life two years ago.

To commemorate Agent Camacho, I was pleased to present her family with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Laredo Motor Carriers Association

It was great to join the Laredo Motor Carriers Association to thank U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents for their tireless work.

As we work to increase trade and expand our ports of entry, we recognize CBP’s crucial work in keeping our communities safe. Over the last two years, I have fought to add $2.4 billion to CBP’s budget so they have the resources they need to do their jobs well.

Knights of Columbus Council

I had the pleasure of presenting the Knights of Columbus Council 2304 with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.

Since its inception, Council 2304 has worked to serve the Laredo community through charity. Thank you for your contributions to South Texas and our nation.

Congregation Rodfei Sholom

It was an honor to join Congregation Rodfei Sholom and the San Antonio Jewish community.

I stand committed to combatting antisemitism wherever it may arise and supporting Israel in its war against Hamas

Legislative Update in San Antonio

It was good to be back with many friends in San Antonio to provide an update on my work in Congress.

In 2023, we achieved great things for Bexar County – but we are just getting started.
