Vote Mama Monthly Newsletter
February 2024 Edition 💖
As you’re reading this newsletter, please keep in mind that none of this work would be possible — or sustainable — without grassroots supporters like you.
Here's a recap of what we've been up to this month!
⬇️⬇️⬇️
VOTE MAMA FIGHTS BACK
This month included new lows from far-right extremists and the anti-abortion movement. The Alabama Supreme Court officially ruled that frozen embryos are children, paving the way for the state to ban in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.
Vote Mama calls this bullsh*t out. We won’t let extremists set the narrative and we won’t let them. Together, we are fighting back— it’s what we do.
ALUMNAE SPOTLIGHTS
Mom Squad Makes Waves In Albany:
From NewsDay — “In politics, where coalitions are usually built around regions and ethnicity, a new caucus in Albany crosses both of those lines. They call it the Mom Squad. The Mom Squad is a loosely aligned group of 10 to 15 mothers with young children who are emerging leaders in the Senate and Assembly during what Albany veterans say is the largest contingent of young mothers in the State Legislature ever.” Click here to read the full article about the Mom Squad, which includes so many wonderful Vote Mama alumnae!
CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHTS
Mai Xiong Delivers FIRST Vote Mama Primary Victory of 2024:
This month, Mai Xiong, a Michigan mama of four, won her special primary election! And it’s our first primary victory of 2024! Mai’s candidacy is a big deal. When elected to office, she will be the first Hmong American and first former refugee to ever serve in the Michigan State Legislature.
ENDORSEMENT UPDATES
- We received nearly TWO-HUNDRED endorsement applications for our first round of 2024 endorsements! 🙌
- The application period is now closed, but don’t worry, a second wave of endorsement applications will open up later this year to allow for even more mamas to apply for support!
- FYI — The amount of money we raise through grassroots fundraising directly impacts how many moms we are able to endorse. If you can, make a contribution today so that we can support as many moms as possible who are running to flip seats from red-to-blue in such an important election year.
VOTE MAMA IN THE MEDIA
Councilmember Jocelyn Yow penned an op-ed about Campaign Funds for Childcare and the work we do at Vote Mama Foundation to approve the measure in all 50 states:
“Before I decided to run for council again, childcare was my number one concern before everything else, and I wasn’t alone. I know many other moms who shared the same concern about running for office with a child. A friend of mine—who first ran for a local California water board seat in 2018 with three young children—racked up $15,000 in credit card debt on childcare alone when she was running.”
Read more from her powerful testimony here. And… look at her precious baby!! We truly can’t get enough of this piece. ⬇️⬇️💙💙
And ICYMI...
Politico recently covered the work that Vote Mama Foundation does to approve the use of Campaign Funds for Childcare in all 50 states. This coverage helps spread the message that in order to elect more moms, we have to break down the barriers that prevent them from running in the first place— just like Councilmember Yow described in her op-ed. Seriously, we aren’t making this up, folks!

MSNBC’s Morning Joe aired a segment last month that highlighted this important research and moms with minor kids face on the campaign trail. We posted about it here on our Instagram in case you missed it!
BEFORE YOU GO -- MAKE YOUR SUPPORT GO FARTHER:
Early, recurring contributions are essential to the cyclical work we do to elect pro-choice Democratic moms. Over the last five years, you’ve helped us build an organization that has helped a lot of Democratic mamas get across the finish line. In 2023 alone, we elected 48 moms, achieving a 79% success rate. As we make plans to elect more moms this year, it’s really important that we are able to meet our commitments for our candidates. And your continued support ensures that we can make an even bigger impact in 2024.
Can you commit to a monthly recurring gift of $20.24 or whatever you can afford to help us keep a positive momentum through the 2024 election year?
