The first two months of 2024 have flown by. I have been hard at work in Congress fighting for disaster relief, clean energy, fiscal responsibility, and more. And of course, election season is in full swing here in California, with our primary coming up on March 5.
It’s only going to get busier from here – the November election will be here before we know it. And all along the way, I’ll continue fighting for progress on our most pressing challenges.
Read the full update below for more details about our work so far this year, and make sure to follow the campaign on Facebook [[link removed]] , X [[link removed]] , and Instagram [[link removed]] to stay up-to-date.
I’m looking forward to what this year will bring! As always, I’m grateful to have your support.

Insulin Price Cap in Effect
Throughout his time in Congress, Scott has led the fight to make prescription drugs and health care more affordable. He authored the drug pricing framework that was included in the Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered out-of-pocket drug costs, allows Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, and caps insulin costs for Medicare recipients. And as of January, a $35 per month price cap on insulin took effect for another major manufacturer, giving even more Americans access to affordable treatment. This is huge progress, but more work remains ahead. Republicans are still trying to slash Medicare and Medicaid funding, and cut affordable health care at every turn – you can bet Scott will be there to fight back.

Renewed Calls to Support Afghan Refugees
NBC San Diego recently interviewed the founders of #AfghanEvac, a veteran-led coalition of organizations dedicated to helping resettle Afghan refugees who aided U.S. troops. They’ve helped to bring over 125,000 displaced Afghans to the U.S., thousands of whom have landed here in San Diego. But the work doesn’t end once refugees make it here. That’s why #AfghanEvac founders called on Congress to pass Scott Peters’ legislation to ensure a clear path to legal permanent residence for Afghan families to easily rebuild their lives.

Addressing the Tijuana River Valley (TRV) Sewage Crisis
A new report from San Diego State University that Scott requested showed just how dire the situation is in the Tijuana River Valley (TRV). Researchers found more evidence that the contamination from cross-border sewage flow is creating an increasingly dangerous public health crisis in our region. From beach closures to the local economy, public health, coastal ecosystems, and more, the damages are clear. Scott is continuing to fight for the swift allocation of federal funds to clean up this crisis once and for all. Add your name here to amplify his call to action >> [[link removed]]

Investing in U.S. Manufacturing
Last year, Congress passed the historic CHIPS and Science Act, delivering major investments in innovation in San Diego and across the country. To build on this important progress, this week Scott introduced legislation to streamline approvals for projects supported by CHIPS, while still adhering to environmental review processes. With this boost, the U.S. will be better able to protect national security interests, strengthen manufacturing, and uphold climate goals.

Fighting for Fiscal Responsibility
Our national debt is growing at an alarming rate, and we need immediate action to get our country back on track. Scott is working to do exactly that. He’s pushing to create a bipartisan, bicameral fiscal commission to study long-term solutions, and his bill recently passed the House Budget Committee. Now, Congress needs to finish the job and secure a more prosperous future for our children.

Investing in Clean Energy
This month, Scott co-introduced bipartisan and bicameral legislation to establish a pilot program that would provide grants and low-interest loans for new or upgraded hydrogen energy infrastructure projects. This kind of investment in a clean energy source will go a long way in reaching our climate goals, reducing pollution, and creating green energy jobs of the future.

Supporting Our Children and Working Families
Scott recently helped to pass a bipartisan bill to expand the Child Tax Credit and Low Income Housing Tax Credit, as well as restore other research and development tax incentives. This legislation will help to lower childhood poverty, support working families, increase availability of affordable housing, and support innovative businesses right here in San Diego.

Campaign and GO Team Kickoffs
Scott is committed to engaging voters and growing our Democratic majorities throughout the County. Last month, he joined Alan Geraci’s campaign kickoff event for San Marcos City Council and spoke with the Del Mar GO Team about the importance of grassroots activism and turning out as many voters as we can. Together, we will turn North County blue!

Canvassing in San Diego
This year’s elections are going to have major consequences for the direction of California, and our nation as a whole. That’s why Scott is doing all he can to support Democrats up and down the ballot. Last weekend he joined Colin Parent, candidate for CA’s State Assembly District 79, to mobilize and speak directly with voters across the district.
