Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to flag for you two bills that are scheduled to receive hearings in the House Public Safety Committee on Thursday at 10:30 AM.
The two bills Democrats will push in that hearing are?H.F. 601 ? Her, which establishes an arbitrary deadline for reporting lost and stolen firearms; and?H.F. XXXX ? Becker-Finn, which requires ammunition and firearms to be locked and stored separately.
In practical terms, if your firearms are stolen, HF 601 would place the responsibility on you, the victim of the crime, to file a report to law enforcement within the government?s definition of reasonable time. If you failed to do so, and the criminal committed another crime with your stolen property, you may be held responsible.
The Becker-Finn bill would greatly expand storage requirements for firearms within someone?s own home and create limits on the effectiveness of a firearm for home defense.
If you are unable to travel to St. Paul for Thursday?s hearing, I nevertheless encourage you to submit written comments on these bills. The deadline to submit written testimony will be 12:00pm, Feb. 28th. All written testimony must be submitted in a PDF document without clickable links. All testimony should be sent to?[email protected].
The hearing will be broadcast live per usual at House TV or on YouTube.
Make sure your voice is heard loud and clear and let Democrats know that the 2nd Amendment is off limits.
Have a good day,
Jeff
