Dear Neighbors,
The 2024 Legislative Session began this month, and I couldn’t be happier to be back at work representing our community in the Minnesota House. The hallways of the Capitol are once again full of Minnesotans advocating for what matters most to them. To those of you who’ve already come to visit - I’m really grateful for our conversations about the things that matter most to you. And if you are planning a visit to the Capitol soon - stop by for a chat.
Last year was a big one for our community and state, and we’ll look to build upon those accomplishments this year. As we start to tackle new and continuing issues, I want to hear from you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office (
[email protected]) with any questions, comments, or ideas you have for this session!

Here is an update from the Capitol.
Banning Shadow Non-Compete Agreements
On Tuesday, I was joined by several workers who shared their stories in our Labor Committee in support of my bill to ban so-called "shadow" non-competes.
In 2023, the Minnesota legislature made great strides in protecting Minnesota workers from these exploitative employment restrictions by prohibiting non-compete and no-poach agreements. Unfortunately, after those laws went into effect it became evident that there are additional anti-competitive restrictive employment covenants in contracts that unfairly restrict the ability of workers to find and keep jobs in their region and industry. Even worse, these employment restrictions are in service contracts between two entities without the knowledge or consent of the workers they impact.
Restrictive employment covenants or “shadow non-competes” exist in service contracts that operate without the knowledge of workers that they impact. Restrictive employment covenants serve the same essential anti-competitive purpose as non-compete agreements banned last session but are inconspicuous because they limit workers’ job opportunities without their knowledge.
My bill prevent these restrictive employment covenants in service contracts, ensure workers have the ability to seek and retain employment in a given location and industry, and require notice to employees and that the service provider agreement be updated to remove or acknowledge that the provision is void. These changes would help promote competition in all industries to attract, train, and retain a strong workforce.

Insulin Prices Capped
Democrats are dedicated to reducing the cost of health care and protecting against price-gouging. Earlier this month, Attorney General Keith Ellison announced a landmark settlement with the Eli Lily insulin company that caps insulin at just $35 for the next 5 years.
Drug companies raised the price of insulin by over 1,100% between 1990 and 2020, and this settlement ensures that Minnesotans can afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect.
