My name is Barry Mattson, and on March 16, I was honored to join this amazing team as the new Chief Executive Officer for Rise Against Hunger. My first weeks on the job were clearly much different than I expected prior to the start of the global health crisis we’re facing, but our mission of ending hunger is now more important than ever. I gravitate toward audacious goals, which is one of the many reasons I am committed to Rise Against Hunger’s mission of achieving a world without hunger. I believe hunger and poverty are solvable issues when undertaken through local community leadership — even in the midst of crisis. As you may have heard, our organization’s ability to support people in need worldwide has been challenged as restrictions on gatherings led to the cancellation or postponement of 400+ upcoming volunteer meal packaging events. Nearly 72,500 children and families could be impacted by meal shortages and other obstacles in the coming months, and that number continues to rise as the situation evolves. But no matter what the future has in store, with your help, we can meet the needs of communities facing hunger across the globe. Click below to watch a special message from our new CEO. |
