Hi–
Machine guns have been tightly regulated under federal law for 90 years—so the gun industry invented bump stocks to skirt federal law and make assault weapons even deadlier.
And this week, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case to determine the future of bump stocks.
The stakes are high: If the court rules in the gun industry's favor, these deadly devices will be automatically legalized in 32 states.
Learn more about bump stocks and what's at stake in Garland v. Cargill.

Subject: This Supreme Court decision could legalize deadly bump stocks in 32 states
Hi–
It's been one year since the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals—the gun lobby's favorite federal appeals court—struck down a life-saving rule on bump stocks, effectively legalizing them in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Bump stocks are devices that allow shooters to fire up to 800 rounds per minute, effectively turning assault weapons into machine guns.
We're anticipating a decision from the Supreme Court in Garland v. Cargill to determine if bump stocks can be manufactured, sold, and purchased in most states.

In 2017, a gunman in Las Vegas wielded 14 rifles equipped with bump stocks to kill 60 people and wound at least 411 more, making it the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
In the years following that devastating shooting, a federal rule banned bump stocks and many states enacted their own laws to regulate them—even some with Republican governors in Massachusetts, Florida, Maryland, and Vermont.
But if the Supreme Court rules later this year to uphold the Fifth Circuit's extreme decision, the federal rule will be struck down and bump stocks will automatically be legalized in 32 states. Once again, people would be able to easily turn their semi-automatic weapons into machine guns.
We can't afford to let the gun industry undo the progress we've made. Be the first to know when the Supreme Court rules on this case, and learn how we're fighting back against the gun lobby.
Thanks for being in this fight,
