John,
Right-wing Republicans have ground business in the House of Representatives to a halt.
If no agreement is reached by Friday at midnight, the federal government will enter a partial shutdown. One week later, it’ll enter a full shutdown.
At issue are extremist demands to attach poison pills to must-pass government funding legislation―including attacks on immigrant communities; the addition of a fiscal commission to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and more behind closed doors; attacks on the LGBTQIA community; gutting climate change protections; attacks on the IRS and its new, free Direct File online tax filing system; efforts to undermine the ability of families that participate in SNAP to make their own food choices; and much more.
To date, House Republicans have added more than 560 poison pills to their draft FY2024 funding bills.1 We’re fighting back!
Donate today to keep the pressure on Congress to pass “clean” government funding legislation without harmful poison pill policy changes and avert a damaging government shutdown.

Also being debated ahead of tomorrow’s White House meeting with congressional leadership is whether Congress will fully fund WIC―nutrition assistance for pregnant and postpartum parents and young children. Fully funding WIC has traditionally been a bipartisan effort, but as Speaker Johnson capitulates to the right-wing of his caucus, nothing is guaranteed. There are also fears that funding for low-income rental vouchers is so low that fewer families will be able to get this essential help with their housing.
We’re fighting against dangerous policies that attack vulnerable communities, demanding clean government funding legislation at the totals previously agreed upon. Anything less risks drastic cuts and harmful policies that most voters roundly reject.
Rush a donation today to keep the pressure on Congress to pass clean government funding legislation this week, before a government shutdown Friday at midnight.
