Remember the anti-immigrant Senate bill we helped defeat this month? Now President Biden is expected to pick up where it left off and issue an executive order that could allow him to shut down the border, increase deportations, and end asylum as we know it.

But the White House is still deciding.¹ Now is our moment: President Biden needs to hear from American Jews and allies that we demand an executive order that safeguards asylum and creates more protections for new and undocumented immigrants.

Why are Democrats and President Biden supporting draconian border policies and gutting asylum? Because the GOP Fear Machine is doing its job. By repeating the false and dangerous idea of an “invasion,” they have made people afraid and pressured Democrats to support cruel policies that harm our communities.

Our job is to rise above the racism and bigotry — to join across difference with our neighbors to build a country that fulfills the promises of freedom and safety for all of us, no exceptions.
