I’ve been an activist my whole life, and I sometimes still need to remind
myself that progress isn’t a straight line. There are always detours and
setbacks. Our challenge is to see bumps in the road as opportunities to be
better: to grow more empathetic, build deeper coalitions, and draw new
lessons. Big dreams emerge alongside the everyday hard work of improving
lives and resisting attempts to undermine progress. Dream.Org is all about
dreaming of a world beyond prisons, poverty, and pollution, while working
each day to produce concrete steps forward for our communities.

Last month, in an unprecedented and inhumane move, Alabama used nitrogen
gas (N2) to execute Kenneth Eugene Smith. The method was untested and
never before utilized in the US. All capital punishment is inhumane, but
N2 is blatantly cruel as it slowly suffocates its victims. We cannot stay
silent. Join us in demanding an end to inhumane executions. We urge
governors in states with capital punishment to ban nitrogen gas along with
other novel methods and permanently abolish the death penalty once and for
all.

Two Supreme Court cases could make it harder to protect communities from
unsafe air, water, drugs, or food. Previously, agencies like the
Environmental Protection Agency were classified as experts in their field
and could give testimony to help judges rule on complicated issues. Judges
and communities benefit from their specific knowledge in complex court
cases. But SCOTUS could rule that these agencies should no longer be
classified as experts – limiting an important voice for climate equity and
leaving important decisions that affect us all in the hands of judges with
no direct experience or technical expertise.
