Hi John,
Big oil is planning a massive crude oil pipeline through the middle of East Africa. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) would be the largest heated oil pipeline ever built, spanning 900 miles between Uganda and Tanzania.(1)
But the corporations behind EACOP are still looking for insurance for the project. This means we could help stop this climate disaster if we put enough pressure on the big fossil fuel insurers, many of whom have a presence in the UK, not to insure it.
This week people all over the world are taking action to demand insurers publicly commit to not insuring fossil fuel projects like EACOP, as part of the Insure Our Future global week of action.(2)
We know that ordinary people applying pressure to insurers can have a significant impact. Already, phone calls and emails from people in the UK and around the world have helped get eight UK-based insurance companies, and others internationally, to commit to not insuring EACOP. However, Tokio Marine Kiln, one of the UK’s major fossil fuel project insurance businesses, has still not ruled out support for EACOP.
Today we’re joining the Stop EACOP campaign to put pressure on UK-based Tokio Marine Kiln to publicly rule out insuring this project. Can you email their CEO now?

EACOP threatens to displace thousands of families and farmers across Tanzania and Uganda from their land and has already disrupted the livelihoods of many. Nearly a third of the pipeline will run through the basin of Lake Victoria – Africa's largest lake – and threatens to pollute this vital water source, which 40 million people rely on for drinking water and food production.
Local communities, human rights defenders and environmental activists are doing all they can to resist the pipeline, but they are facing increasing pressure, threats and imprisonment for speaking out against the corporate and political interests backing EACOP.(3)
Our allies in Uganda are calling on us to put as much pressure on UK insurers as we can, so that they don't insure the project. Can you take action now to demand Tokio Marine Kiln rules out insuring this project?

Together, we can help put pressure on the insurance industry to stop supporting fossil fuel expansion – one of the key pillars of our work to bring an end to the fossil fuel era.
Thank you,

While much of the world suffers from a cost of living crisis, the five biggest corporations are earning more than a quarter of the world's population. We exist as part of a global movement to challenge corporate power and promote sustainable alternatives.
