You might remember me as the Texas state senator who in 2013 filibustered for 13 hours in pink sneakers against a measure that would restrict access to abortion care in our state.

Unfortunately, abortion restrictions have become even worse and more extreme in the past 10 years.  After the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, over 20 states banned or restricted abortion with Texas having one of the most severe bans in the country.

I know from experience how important it is to have pro-choice leaders fighting for us at every level of government—including leaders like Lizzie in Congress.

There is a way every Texan, and every American, can fight back against the attacks on reproductive freedom: speak out against those taking away our freedom and support those who are fighting to restore it.

That’s why I’m proud to endorse Lizzie for re-election.  She’s led efforts to codify Roe into law in all 50 states, protect the right to travel for reproductive care, and protect access to birth control and abortion medication—all of which have faced threats since Roe was overturned.

Defending and restoring abortion rights everywhere—especially at this critical time—is a fight that requires all of us to get involved.  We need to work twice as hard and twice as smart to continue advancing equality for women in this increasingly hostile environment.
