Donald Trump didn’t create the coronavirus. But his incompetence and dishonesty are killing people.
The President responded to this pandemic with a familiar and fatal mix of delays and denials. The result, in part: the U.S. now has more confirmed cases than anywhere in the world.
This administration left our country, by one account, “rudderless, blindsided, lethargic, and uncoordinated.” As The Atlantic put it, “the White House is a ghost town of scientific expertise.”
We’ll talk at our virtual town hall
today and in the weeks ahead about how to end this crisis and prevent—or at least mitigate—the next. That is and must be our top priority.
But let’s be crystal clear: unless we replace Donald Trump and remove his enablers from Congress, this pattern will repeat itself: another crisis will hit, the President will lie, and the death toll will rise. Let’s not make America wait again.
