Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues his immoral, unacceptable, and inhumane treatment of asylum seekers. Late last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal government has the authority to remove Abbott’s razor wire border barrier, which has killed at least two migrants (one a toddler) and maimed an untold number.

Standing by his own barbaric acts and in defiance of the Supreme Court, Gov. Abbott announced he will ignore the ruling. His lieutenant governor, Dan Patrick, went as far as saying “we are putting up wire… everywhere we can. We will continue. We will not stop. If [the federal government] cuts it, we will replace it.”

Former President Donald Trump exacerbated the issue by calling upon "all willing States" to deploy National Guard troops to Texas, a call he does not have the authority to make. Trump’s demands undermine federal authority and exacerbate tensions between state and federal forces.
