The Biden administration is reportedly weighing more restrictive options at the border. Coverage has centered around a presidential authority—Section 212(f) of the INA— which the Trump administration invoked in 2018 in an unsuccessful attempt to limit migrants’ ability to seek asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border if they did not enter through a port of entry. The administration is also reportedly considering adopting a “Last in, First Out” approach to asylum claims from the border.

New research from the Council highlights the key role that immigrants are playing in southern Utah’s workforce and as taxpayers, consumers, entrepreneurs, international students, and more.
This research brief uses American Community Survey data to show the demographic and economic contributions that immigrants are making across the region. The report focuses on seven southern Utah communities, including Beaver, Garfield, Grand, Iron, Kane, San Juan, and Washington counties.
