Since America’s founding, our federal government and land management laws have allowed for the desecration of sites and land sacred to our nation’s Indigenous people.
A bill was recently introduced in the House of Representatives that would advance the protection of sacred and cultural sites.
We’re calling on our representatives: Protect Native sacred places and Tribal sovereignty by passing the Tribal Cultural Areas Protection Act now.
The Tribal Cultural Areas Protection Act would:
- establish a national system of culturally significant sites on public lands
- prohibit mining and other harmful forms of development that would impair the areas’ cultural values
- honor Tribal Nations’ sovereign right to protect, co-manage, and prevent the further degradation of our sacred places
We’re joining up with the Native Organizers Alliance Action Fund to call on Congress to pass this important legislation to protect places of cultural and traditional significance and expand tribal sovereignty.
Members of Congress: preserve Native sacred places and expand tribal sovereignty now.
Thank you,
Democratic Values
