On February 24, 2022, the invasion of Ukraine began. Women and girls are still suffering as war in Ukraine passes the two year mark.
Thousands have been killed. War has exacerbated the risks of violence against women, sexual exploitation, and abuse and has increased poverty levels.
Attacks on hospitals, roads and energy infrastructure have caused widespread blackouts and disrupted basic services in Ukraine.
Around 195,000 babies were born in Ukraine amid the chaos of war over the first year. Many expectant mothers have been forced to give birth in basements and bomb shelters in dire conditions. For thousands of pregnant women without access to essential services, childbirth is now fraught with added danger.
But since war broke out in 2022, gifts from donors have made a world of difference for women and girls living through war in Ukraine.

UNFPA has supported maternity hospitals in Ukraine to meet the needs of pregnant women, expand access to free and quality reproductive health services, and provide hospitals with essential supplies.
We are also working with partners to deliver reproductive health services across Ukraine, including in areas close to the front lines and in neighboring countries. Over a third of all births in Ukraine in 2022 were delivered at one of the 51 maternity facilities supported by UNFPA.
As the conflict escalates again, this work is not over. More women will give birth in a warzone. More women will be at heightened risk of violence. More women and girls will lack access to essential health care and basic services.
To expand our presence assisting survivors and reach more women and girls displaced by warfare in Ukraine, we’re counting on more gifts from supporters like you.
Donate today to help women and girls impacted by warfare in Ukraine and around the world rebuild their lives, regain some stability, and live with dignity even in the darkest of times. [[link removed]]
