In 2020, voters made it clear: Trump’s policies were tarnishing the fabric of our country. So it is disappointing to see this headline come through this week:

I know firsthand what it feels like to come to this country, rich in opportunity, with a will to make something of yourself. Immigrants are not the problem — especially those seeking asylum. And this extremist GOP rhetoric will only further jeopardize innocent lives who just want a chance at a safer way of life.
I am proud to stand in Congress and demand that Democrats must not, under any circumstances, restrict the right to asylum. Cruel enforcement-only policies have been tried for 30 years and simply do not work. Truth is: we must lead in addressing the broken immigration system by championing common sense, compassionate reforms that millions of Americans support.
The GOP knows I am standing in the way of enacting Donald Trump and Stephen Miller's cruel playbook. They have already spent millions to silence our movement, and we cannot let them succeed.
